Cheetos was the brainchild of Charles Elmer Doolin. Born on March 15, 1903, in Kansas City, Kansas, Doolin had an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for the food industry. Doolin was intrigued with the potential of the snack business. And in 1932 he purchased a small San Antonio business that produced a corn chip snack called “Fritos.”
He was distributing corn snacks Fritos had produced and in 1948 Dooling got a chance to attend a Trade Show. Which changed his destiny. There he gets a chance to taste a cheesy snack and falls in love with the taste instantly. He purchases the recipe and starts to experiment with it and trying to adapt his already produced corn snacks to give a cheesy taste.
After numerous trials, he succeeded and developed the signature Cheetos snack. Which featured a cheese-flavored coating on a crunchy cornmeal base. Cheetos made their first snack called “Cheetos Crunchy Cheese Snacks” in 1948. And was initially sold in the southern United States.
